TravelOcean County Drivers Face New Week of Closures in Toms River, Lakewood and Seaside Park

Ocean County drivers are starting the week under a broad set of active roadwork advisories affecting several major local corridors, including downtown Toms River, Lakewood and Seaside Park. The Ocean County Department of Engineering’s commuter page lists current closures, lane shifts and detours with updates posted Monday, April 6.

Among the most visible local impacts is Hooper Avenue in Toms River, between Washington Street and Madison Avenue, where the county says lane closures and reduced speeds remain in place because of Justice Complex Annex construction and a pedestrian skywalk upgrade. In Lakewood, Route 9 and James Street are listed under road closure for gas main installation. In Seaside Park, Ocean Avenue between Island Avenue and 14th Avenue is posted for road closure because of milling and paving.

The countywide scope is what makes the advisory notable. The same update also lists lane closures and detours in Point Pleasant Borough and other communities, meaning this is not an isolated project affecting one township. It is a broader work pattern that is likely to push traffic pressure onto nearby routes and neighborhood streets. That spillover effect is an inference from the number and placement of the closures.

For Ocean County residents, the practical message is clear: this week’s traffic patterns are likely to be slower and less predictable, especially in corridors already prone to backups. Drivers should check local conditions before leaving and allow extra time where roadwork is active.
